Suffolk Volunteers needed for London 2012 - What an opportunity!
With less than a year to go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games, the search is on for over 2,000 young people from across the UK to be part of the Young Games Maker Programme.
Suffolk is aiming to play its part in recruiting inspired young volunteers, to take up volunteering roles vital to ensuring the successful delivery of the Games in London next summer.
Applicants must be aged 16 or over on 1 July 2012 and under 18 on 1 January 2012.
Applications are invited from schools and colleges that are part of the ‘Get Set’ network and other youth and voluntary organisations working with young people.
The date for applications is 22nd September until 31st October 2011.
Schools, colleges and youth organisations in Suffolk are being encouraged to make team applications as part of the programme to give local young people the opportunity to be involved. In addition to this, the Suffolk 2012 Volunteering Legacy Project is planning to make a team application consisting of young people from across the county.
“This really is the opportunity of a lifetime for groups of young people from Suffolk to be right at the heart of next year’s Olympic and Paralympic Games in London”, said Mike McCarthy, the Suffolk 2012 Volunteering Legacy Officer.
