Clubs Needed - Injury Surveillance Project

There is growing understanding of the nature of match injuries which occur in International and Premiership level rugby, but less is known about injury patterns in the Community game. Now entering its fourth season, this project involves the collection of information on injuries which occur during matches in RFU playing levels 3-9

About the Project

The Community Rugby Injury Surveillance Project is a national programme funded by the RFU Injured Players Foundation on behalf of Community Rugby as part of a commitment to reduce injuries within rugby. The Project is co-ordinated by members of the Sport, Health and Exercise Science Group at the University of Bath and involves the collection of information on injuries which occur during RFU community level matches.

We need your participation

We are looking for sports injury specialists working with rugby union clubs competing within playing levels 3-9 to volunteer for this project for the 2011/12 season.  If you wish to take part, you will be asked to record and return the following information throughout the 2011/12 rugby season:

Brief details of all medical pitch attendances to players during 1st XV matches.

Further details on any 1st XV match injuries which prevent the injured player from playing for at least one week after the injury.

The above information is collected on forms that we will provide and returned using pre-paid envelopes, at no expense to the club.

Benefits to your club and the game

Clubs that take part will receive a report of their match injuries for the season, including how the club’s injury patterns compare with other clubs of a similar level.

You will be making a valuable contribution to the understanding of injury patterns in English Community rugby which is essential in developing future injury management strategies.
