ECRU Chosen for Schools Pilot

Eastern Counties Rugby Union (ECRU) has been chosen to run a schools rugby pilot project in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft.

scrum

The two communities of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft are each distinctive, but they share some common challenges and barriers to raising the levels of skill within their local populations and ensuring that individuals have the best opportunities to secure their own economic wellbeing. There are high levels of deprivation across the whole area, higher levels of unemployment in young people and adults in both communities than within Norfolk and Suffolk respectively and both communities face specific challenges related to their rural coastal locations.  It is for these reasons that the ‘All Schools Plan Project’ can support the communities and the regeneration of the whole area through increased engagement with community rugby clubs.

ECRU have formed a strategy and monitoring steering group to:

  • Oversee the setting up of this project.
  • Manage the delivery of its stated objectives.
  • Monitor its impact on young people.
  • Ensure buy in from all local and national stakeholders.
  • Oversee the financial management of the pilot
  •

This group has met and as a result has produced this plan and recommendations for funding and delivery of this project. The group membership is

  • Bob Cranna MBE, Chairman ECRU
  • David Masdin, Deputy Head Caister High School, Chairman Eastern Counties Schools Union.
  • Jerry Stone, ECRU Project Lead, Chairman of Youth Rugby Lowestoft &Yarmouth RFC
  • ECRU Hon Treasurer ,
  • Lee Adamson RFU Rugby Development Officer Norfolk and Suffolk.
  • Penny Chapman RFU RDO Norfolk
  • Andy Wilesmith Suffolk Schools Hon Sec.
