EC Under 19s Colts.

Eastern Counties run a 7s team at Colts level to play in the National County 7s every May.

Players are drawn from those who have represented EC at Under 18 level and or from club sides competing in the EC 7s Cup.

This season the squad has been generously sponsored by PLAYMORE who have supplied a full set of kit free of charge!

As preparations for the 2011 Competition, the side entered the Ely RFC Charity 7s.

The side did not lose a game all day and really began to play some quality Rugby by the end of the day....

After reviewing the competition the following 12 Players have been selected to go to Broadstreet RFC on Sunday May 15th to represent E Counties.

Tom Crozier, Charlie Precious, Jaco Nel, Ben Wakefield.

Ryan Oakes, Henry Dewing, James Crossley, Chris Lord.

Damo Brambley,Harry Downing, Owen Herbert,Mike Stanway.

Stand by: Ned Brown, Andy Harris.

SUNDAY MAY 15TH - NATIONAL COUNTY COLTS COMPETITION.

Counties travelled in good heart to Broadstreet RFC for the National Cup.

As for today....I think the first game 20 – 19 defeat, from a 19 – 10 lead , knocked us out of our stride. Having to turn around and play straight again, when clearly shell shocked, saw us lose 17 – 12 and thus sent into the Plate Competiton......

The long wait for a game clearly helped sort the heads out and a comfortable win over Dorset & Wilts put us into a Semi with Cheshire.

The Cheshire side had been tipped as outsiders for the main comp and they were certainly the biggest and most physical side we faced all day.

The early second half try to put Cheshire 17 – 0 up seemed to have sealed the game but three tries in the last 3 minutes was an outstanding achievement.

After such a comeback there was no way we were going to lose the Plate Final and poor Warwickshire B did not know what had hit them.....47 – 0!

As with the Ely competition last week, we got better and better as the day went on and it was just a shame we did not put ourselves into a position to have a crack at Surrey in the main comp....I’m not saying we would have beaten them, but think we would have pushed them harder than anyone else did on the day.

Try of the day, despite Tom’s 90 metre dash in the final, has to go to Mike Stanway’s last play of the game 70 metre dash to see of Cheshire!
