Primary School Lesson Plans Tag Rugby

We are pleased to provide primary school lesson plans. Staff at the RFU have worked with a group of Primary School teachers to provide a resource that delivers to the national curriculum objectives for learning.

This resource is based on a game centred approach where children are introduced to and developed through game play and specific skill based activities. The information and support provided will develop a teachers understanding of tag rugby and provide safe, enjoyable and exciting ideas to engage pupils in their own learning. The resource consists of an innovative programme of six games and four activities, both of which are progressive and interchangeable to meet the needs and abilities of the learner. It is structured to enable the teacher/coach to use the suggested mini games to inform assessment of the children’s needs, and so identify an appropriate pathway through the resource and not just merely follow a preset scheme of work. This should ensure that development of the children’s skills is appropriate for each group. It is intended for the teacher/coach and for the children themselves to use observation and questioning to identify a need and then use this resource to find a solution that will direct them to playing an activity to improve the skill identified.  These are available free of charge from rfu.com alongside the secondary school lesson plans that were launched earlier in the season.
