Sandy was President of the Rugby Football Union for the 1989/1990 season, and received 9 caps as an England Prop between 1954 and 1956, he was also a long standing member of the Ipswich YM Rugby Club holding many committee roles over the years.

His death is a very sad loss to Rugby in our region.
