Safeguarding Matters

December, 2009

Merry Christmas from EC Safeguarding team!

It’s amazing that two months have elapsed since the Conference and Christmas is almost upon us.

Welcome to all our new readers. We calculated at the Conference that there has been a 50% turnover in CSOs in Eastern Counties this season. So make a note of our phone numbers if you have any queries.

The one problem that irritates CSOs more than any other is CRB. However, you can now track your CRB. Make a note of the number top right of Form (F00…) and DOB of applicant then go to:

http://www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk/services/online_tracking_service.aspx

and follow instructions.

15% of CRBs submitted get returned. I’ve already given advice on this in February Newsletter. There is advice at:

http://clubs.rfu.com/Clubs/portals/RUSafe/default.aspx

found under the CRB heading. It also tells you how to run a CRB Report. (Make sure your webmaster clears Pending Membership list!

We are happy to visit Clubs to support you. We do make regular monitoring visits to Clubs as required by RFU but are also happy to come and chat issues over.

Sad to say 4 Youth Coaches have been before the disciplinary panel for Ref Abuse and pitch invasion! Please try to encourage your Club to follow EC Guidelines about roping off the spectator area.

ou also get challenging behaviour from the Young People you are dealing with too!! There is advice on :

 Club Safeguarding Officers Workshops

One was held at Wymondham in November, but I’m looking for a venue in Suff/Cambs for one in May. Any offers?

Safeguarding & Protecting Young People Courses have been held in Southwold & Newmarket. The RFU are not aurhorising any more until May!! I’m pursuing this and will keep you up-to-date.
